What to Look for When Buying Property in France

If you are thinking of either moving to France on a permanent basis, or perhaps buying a second home there, then it really is advisable to do as much research as possible. Whilst some laws and customs will seem familiar, there will also be some that will seem strange and unusual.

There are also some terms that need a fuller understanding beyond their literal translations, such as particulier immobilier amongst other ones. In fact, knowledge of the French language is vitally important, not only for the process of buying a house, but obviously, for any time spent there as well.

When buying any property, location is also important, and this is true on many levels. Obviously, you must be happy with where any property is situated, but also it must be near to facilities and services that you need. Whilst a house in the country may look nice, it is impractical, if you need to take your kids twenty miles to the nearest school.

When it comes to choosing a house, it might be an idea to enlist the services of a bi-lingual estate agent. Someone who specialises in people from the UK buying houses in France would be an excellent idea.

Finally, when coming to put in an offer, make sure that any banks and solicitors that are used are also well versed in dealing with property transactions overseas.
